It plays a big role in shaping the early spring form and often identifies the standout three-year-olds of the season.

When is Golden Rose Stakes 2025?

The 2025 Golden Rose Stakes will be run on Saturday 27th September at Rosehill Gardens.

Who Won Last Year’s Golden Rose?

The 2024 Golden Rose Stakes was taken out in eye-catching fashion by Broadsiding, ridden by James McDonald and trained by James Cummings.

Race History

First held in 2003, the Golden Rose replaced the Peter Pan Stakes and was granted Group 1 status in 2009. The race regularly attracts top-level colts, geldings, and fillies who go on to feature in major events such as the Caulfield Guineas and Coolmore Stud Stakes. Its growing prizemoney and status make it a highly targeted event for leading stables across the country.

Previous Winners of the Golden Rose

The Golden Rose has produced a roll call of elite performers with Broadsiding winning in 2024. Militarize was brilliant in 2023, launching late to grab victory and cement his reputation as one of the top colts of his generation. Jacquinot claimed the 2022 edition in a thrilling finish, while In The Congo went all the way from the front in 2021. Ole Kirk won in 2020 before going on to take the Caulfield Guineas, and Bivouac was dominant in 2019.

Other Winners

Other notable past winners include The Autumn Sun, Trapeze Artist, and Exosphere. The race has become a proven launching pad for stallion careers and spring feature success, making it an important race on the three-year-old calendar.

Odds & Tips for the Golden Rose Stakes 2025

The favourite for this year’s Golden Rose is the Godolphin owned-Tempted at about $2.90. After a stunning first up run this campaign for his new stable the 3YO filly showed she is ready and raring to go after winning over 1200m at Rosehill a couple of weeks ago. This is her first go at 1400m and whilst there is every reason she should prevail our experts feel she is worth taking on.

Wodeton is strong in the market too but with only 1 win from 7 starts he is starting to get costly for his followers.

Our experts have selected Nepotism as the value bet in the race. Having won twice as a 2YO this colt returned over a shorter trip in what was nothing more than a pipe cleaner. He didn’t get the best of runs in the race and looks primed stepping up to 1400m which is a trip he has won over previously. At $17 to win and $3.50 to place this runner is sure to shorten on race day and is well worth a win and place bet.
