The JJ Atkins History

Originally known as The Claret Stakes, the race has undergone several name changes, most notably being renamed in 1999 to honour legendary trainer T.J. Smith. In 2013, it was again renamed to recognise Queensland trainer Jim Atkins, a dominant figure in Brisbane racing.

Recent Winners

The J.J. Atkins has seen some cracking winners over the past decade. Broadsiding took out the race in 2024, following on from King Colorado in 2023 and Sheeza Belter in 2022.

Past JJ Atkins Winners

A few years back, Converge won in 2021, with Rothfire claiming the win in 2020.  Before that, the likes of Prince Fawaz in 2019, The Autumn Sun in 2018, and Capital Gain in 2017 all stamped their mark on the race. Sacred Elixir scored the win in 2016, while Press Statement was the top juvenile in 2015.
