SA Sires Produce Stakes 2025

What is The SA Sires’ Produce Stakes?

The SA Sires’ Produce Stakes is run in July at Morphettville in South Australia. This Group 3 event is held over 1400 metres and is exclusively for two-year-olds, run at set weights. It’s a key feature for youngsters making the step up in distance and often showcases future stars of the turf in South Australia.

Prize Money

With $150,000 in prize money on offer, it’s a decent incentive for connections to test their juveniles at this level. The race takes place on the left-handed (anticlockwise) around the track and gives punters a great chance to spot emerging talent and get in early on horses likely to make an impact in the spring.

Volkano shapes as the one to beat in the 2025 SA Sires’ Produce Stakes, representing the Tony & Calvin McEvoy stable with young gun JJ Opperman in the saddle. The promising colt comes in as race favourite at about $4.30 after solid support in early betting. Ethereum Girl, trained by the Hayes trio and ridden by seasoned hoop Jason Holder, isn’t far behind in the market, now sitting at $5.00. Bootlegger, trained by Clarken & Macgillivray and partnered with Jake Finnegan, also looks a serious contender, currently priced at $5.50.

Kazaru

Kazaru, under Phillip Stokes with Lachie Neindorf on board, sits at $9.50 and is one to watch with genuine each-way appeal. Mostly For Show, with Jake Toeroek up for the Richard & Chantelle Jolly yard, is also in the mix at $10.50. Violet Lovebug and Too Much Too Soon have both drawn interest at $13.00 and $17.00 respectively. The roughies round out the field, with Testing One Two at $31 and His Lady Bay and Tiptop Tori stepping out at longer odds of $46.00. This year’s edition looks wide open, with several capable of causing a surprise.

Tips

The Pickabookie.com.au selection for the race is Ethereum Girl. She has already stepped up to 1400 metres to good effect at the track and was only caught late in the run. With form in heavy and soft going she has proved herself to have ability to fight it out in tough race conditions and with team Hayes going well in feature races this year the tip is to back Ethereum Girl early as she will be supported on race day.
