The Champagne Stakes is the penultimate Group 1 race in the Sydney Autumn Carnival and is for two-year-olds.
The Champagne Stakes History
It was first run in 1861 at Randwick Racecourse in more recent times with the creation of the Golden Slipper, the Champagne Stakes distance was extended to 1600 metres in 1972 and has remained the same ever since.
Triple Crown Series
This change has meant that the Champagne Stakes is the third and last leg of Sydney’s Two-Year-Old Triple Crown Series, as an FYI the others are the Golden Slipper and the Sires’ Produce Stakes.
