What is the Doncaster Mile?
The Doncaster Mile is a 1600 metre Group 1 Handicap race for 3YOs and older and will take place at Royal Randwick on Saturday 5th April 2025 on day one of The Championships. The handicap is widely considered one of the most open and thrilling races of the Sydney Autumn Carnival.
Prize Money
It is one of four Group 1 races on the day’s card which continues to attract further interest and runners from many countries. The race was first run in 1866 and now has prize money of $AU 4 million.
Previous Winners
Nettoyer remains the last mare to win the Doncaster Mile back in 2020. Among the most famous recent winners is the mighty mare Winx who won in 2016, whilst in 2021, Cascadian took the prize under jockey Jamie Kah for Godolphin.
Mr Brightside
The 2022 winner, Mr Brightside, pulled off something of a surprise when getting up at $20, giving trainers Ben and JD Hayes their first Group 1 win. In the 2023 Mr Brightside went back-to-back, returning as the favourite for the race. The 2024 race was won by Celestial Legend, the Les Bridge-trained colt, who won in part thanks to the assistance of carrying just 49kg.

Tips for the Doncaster Mile 2025
The Pickabookie.com.au value picks for the race are the Chris Wialler-trained Militarize which is currently $51 as well as Al Munhir also $51. Despite something of a flat first run in Sydney the William Haggas-trained Uk runner is worth giving another go as he certainly hasn’t come all this way just for a holiday!
