The Quokka 2025 Race Preview

What is the Quokka?
The Quokka is a relatively new annual horse race held at Ascot Racecourse in Western Australia. The 1200 metre slot holders’ race has quickly become one of the most eagerly anticipated and lucrative events in WA, offering a prize pool of $AU 5 million.
The race operates under weight-for-age conditions, with a total of 13 slots available, each requiring an entry fee of $AU 200,000. The 2025 Quokka will be held on 26th April. The race forms part of a special racing festival known as the Western Trilogy, which also features a harness race, called The Nullabor, and a greyhound race, The Sandgroper.
Previous Quokka Winners
The first-ever running of the Quokka took place on April 15th, 2023, where Sydney-based horse Overpass, trained by Bjorn Baker was victorious, narrowly defeating local superstar Amelia’s Jewel. The second race was on April 20th, 2024, and it was like a rinse and repeat from the previous year as Overpass claimed a second victory by once again edging out Amelia’s Jewel.
Latest Odds
It won’t come as a surprise that in the future’s market for the 2025 Quokka Overpass is the $2 favourite with Headwall at $6 and Front Page and Western Empire both paying $8. Also towards the top of the market are Jokers Grin at $10, and West Star at $16. Magnificent Andy and Comfort me are a couple of roughies paying $51 and $101.
Tips for the Quokka 2025
The Pickabookie.com.au for the race is Overpass to complete a hat trick of wins. The Bjorn Baker-trained runner shows no sign of dropping his standards after starting this campaign with a strong second in the Group 1 TJ Smith at Royal Randwick this month.
For those looking to add some value into your exotics in the race, Magnificent Andy, currently $51, and Rope Them In, paying $31, have both drawn low and could run above market expectation.
