Sires Produce Stakes

What is The Sires Produce Stakes?

The Sires Produce Stakes is a Group 1 race for two-year-old horses (2YOs) in Australia, run at Randwick Racecourse in Sydney. The race is contested over 1400 meters and follows set weights conditions, meaning all horses carry the same weight. The race is key part of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival and has been a major race for young horses since its inception in 1867. The Sires Produce Stakes now has a prize pool of $1 million AUD; it was first won by Glencoe when it was raced over 1600m.

Previous Winners

Two years ago, the race was won by the Chris Waller-trained Militarize at $21, the gelding has since gone on to show that this race really does bring the cream to the top, as he has won three Group 1 races now.  Last year the race was won by the Michael Freedman-trained filly Manaal in heavy conditions at odds of $5.5.

Latest Odds

The early market has the Golden Slipper runner-up, Wodeton as the clear favourite here, sitting at $2.90, while Rivellino is not far behind at $3.50. You can get State Visit and Vinrock both at $6.00 and then on the next line of betting of those fancied to go well are Nepotism and Tempted, each paying $12.

Tips for the Sires Produce Stakes

The Pickabookie.com.au for selection for the race is the Kris Lees-trained Rivellino. The colt might have lost his unbeaten record when finishing fourth in the Golden Slipper but there was plenty to commend about how he stayed on and powered through the line. Whilst $3.50 looks a little skinning at the moment hopefully come race day he will drift in the betting to closer to $4 so might be worth holding off until the day of the race.
