What is The Tancred Stakes?

The Tancred Stakes is a horse race held at Rosehill Gardens in Sydney, Australia, with the 2025 edition taking place on Saturday 29th March.

It’s a Group 1 race open to horses aged three and older and run over 2,400 metres. It is also a Weight for Age race which tests both speed and stamina of the best local and international runners.

It’s worth $1.5 million and is named after the Tancred family, who have a significant history in racing and breeding in Australia. It was first run in 1963 and has been a Group 1 race since 1980.
