The Everest is an Australian Turf Club Group 1 Weight for Age Thoroughbreds race. This classified as Special Conditions class but in 2024 the race was granted Group 1 status.
How Many Runners Are In The Everest?
There are 12 slots available and 4 reserve spaces. This is to ensure that for those who invest in buying a slot have the best chance of getting a runner and not having to scratch and miss out on some very large prize money.
Everest Qualifying Process
The race is a 1,200-metre sprint and is unique in that it features slot owners i.e. individuals or companies who purchase a spot to run a horse in the race.
They then select the horse they want to represent them or sell it or lease it out to any interested parties who feel they have a horse which might run well in the race.

Previous Winners of The Everest
The TAB Everest has seen some thrilling races and generated many memories in a short period of time. In 2017, Redzel (Age: 5, Sex: Gelding) took the win, trained by Peter & Paul Snowden and ridden by Kerrin McEvoy. Redzel then repeated his success in 2018 at the age of 6, again with Kerrin McEvoy aboard.
Yes Yes Yes & Classique Legend
The 2019 race was claimed by Yes Yes Yes (Age: 3, Sex: Colt), trained by Chris Waller and ridden by Glen Boss. In 2020, Classique Legend (Age: 5, Sex: Gelding) emerged victorious, with Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle and trained by Les Bridge.
Think About It
Nature Strip (Age: 7, Sex: Gelding) claimed the 2021 win, trained by Chris Waller and ridden by James McDonald. The 2022 winner was Giga Kick (Age: 3, Sex: Gelding), trained by Clayton Douglas and ridden by Craig Williams. In 2023, Think About It (Age: 5, Sex: Gelding) triumphed, trained by Joseph Pride and ridden by Sam Clipperton.
